Among the many values in the Hindu heritage impressed upon us, gratefulness to our Guru is the foremost.Gurudakshina is a very important aspect in our pursuit of the learning of the scriptures.The Virginia Springfield Chapter’s means of building this affiliation with our Acharya is with the Sunday lunch bhiksha program.This is a wonderful opportunity to have Acharya Pramilaji grace your home and to spend time with you, your family, and friends.This will be a special time for all of you with Pramilaji.Your children and guests will feel special to have Pramilaji's undivided attention and you will have quality time with Pramilaji in a quiet setting. Additionally, this is an also an opportunity to participate in Seva for Chinmaya Mission.
Listed below are some general guidelines to help you in preparing for the bhiksha:
To sign up for the bhiksha, contact the bhiksha coordinator.
One week or so before the bhiksha date, Pramilaji would like to meet with, if possible, all members of your family at the center.
You can invite any friends or family (CM members or not) to the lunch bhiksha.
Bring two sets of directions printed in BOLD and Larger font to give to Pramilaji on the day of the bhiksha
First set should have directions from Springfield high school to your home.
Second set should have directions from your home to Pramilaji’s home. Her home address is 1314 Towlston Road, ViennaVA22182.
Both sheets should contain the home phone number of the host, and cell numbers of both host and hostess (just in case the directions are not clear).
After reciting Brahmaarpanam, Pramilaji and everyone present eat together.
If you are not able to do the bhiksha on your scheduled day due to unforeseen circumstances, please let the bhiksha coordinator know as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made.
There is no specific suggested bhiksha contribution.However, if you would like to donate, please make the donation checks payable to CMWRC.In the note section, please put “Pramilaji Bhiksha”.
What to cook?
Please avoid garlic completely.Onion in minimal quantities is OK.
No eggs or meat.
Food should not be too spicy or greasy.
You can do all the prep work the night before.Please cook the food on the bhiksha day.
Please keep the menu as simple as you want.
